About Thomas Whistance and Staging and Design Essentials LLC.

I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. My schooling focused on mechanical drawing and design. I studied at Ryerson University and then moved on to flying as I was given an opportunity to train with the Air Force as a pilot. As the leader of Canada's VIP squadron, I flew dignitaries from around the world and stayed at some of the finest hotels.  This provided me the platform which began my training for staging (hotels are the leaders in staging and have utilized it for years). As an Air Force pilot I had considerable down time between flights.  I used this as an opportunity to develop my talent for art, design and presentation. I have been dedicated to my artist endeavors since 1992.

The last 10 years of my flying career I was the Director of Flight Operations for a prominent family who were involved in the airline industry. The senior member of the family was a master furniture builder. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to study under him for years and utilize his world-class wood working shop as if it were my own. 

My wife, our two sons and I relocated to New Jersey in 2003. My wife took on an opportunity working in clinical research and I took the opportunity to focus on developing my business strategy and my home staging training.

I am a certified home stager. I have studied with Debra Gould, the “Staging Diva”. Debra has been profiled in numerous media channels from The Wall Street Journal to CNN Money, Reader’s Digest, Money Sense, HGTV and more.
As the president of Staging and Design Essentials, I come to you with years of experience in artistic design, furniture design, and 28 years of experience in home renovation and construction. I have also, renovated, staged and sold eight of my own homes.  As well as a number of other client’s homes.
